STEAMLabs Hackney: About Us

 Our Journey:

Sci_week_0073.jpg

We started life as Elevate in 2015 bringing high quality, fun after school clubs to local children in Hackney. Now, after nearly five years of delivering our unique vision, we are embarking on an exciting new challenge. STEAMLabs Hackney has exactly the same vision and ethos as Elevate but is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company. This will allow us to continue to provide the same high quality curriculum based clubs, workshops and projects but also, with increased funding, give us the opportunity to expand our programmes, extend our reach and to give back to the local community by helping disadvantaged groups access these programmes. Keep up to date with our newsletter.

At Elevate, our aim was very simple; we wanted to motivate children to learn using methods that went beyond classroom-based teaching and to ensure that they had as much fun as possible along the way! We were incredibly passionate about cross-curricular learning and championed this across our clubs and school programmes. In doing so, we hoped to encourage children to develop a strong understanding of how different subjects were intertwined, and ultimately connected, with the real world outside the classroom.

What Next…

We have now reached a stage in our development where we needed to extend our reach. After much soul-searching, we decided to rebrand ourselves as STEAMLabs Hackney. We wanted to work within the community, for the community, and felt that the best way to achieve this was to form a Community Interest Company. We hoped the new name would make our message more clear. We are the same team, with a couple of new faces, bringing the same high quality, targeted sessions to the local community and beyond. All our after school and holiday clubs are inspired by the STEAM model where we mix and match science, technology, engineering, the arts and maths to design, develop and deliver interesting, exciting activities and experiences.
